Businessmen donate P1M for cops’ legal fund

A group of businessmen pooled funds to support the anti-narcotics personnel of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 who are facing legal battles in line of their work.

Supt. Reyman Tolentin, PRO 7 spokesperson, said the businessmen donated P1 million for 193 PRO 7 personnel who are facing administrative and criminal cases in line with their duties, including those related to drug busts.

The fund will be used for the personnel’s fee for their lawyers, drafting of affidavits, appearance fee and other litigation-related fees. PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas turned over the funds to the personnel yesterday morning. The police official said he is thankful to the donors, saying they help in attaining a peaceful Central Visayas.

Five former operatives of Cebu City Police Office Station 5 drug enforcement unit benefited from the businessmen’s generosity. They are facing charges before the ombudsman for their alleged participation in the death of four-year-old Skyler Abatayo in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City last July. (KAL)
