Army: 60 NPA supporters return to fold

SIXTY alleged supporters of the New People's Army (NPA) in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental yielded to the members of the Philippine Army Friday, September 21.

The supporters who were from Barangays Bi-ao and Santol took an oath of allegiance in rites held at the covered court of Bi-ao village on Friday.

The ceremony was led by Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of the 62 Infantry Batallion (IB), and Mayor Emmanuel Aranda, along with some barangay officials and policemen.

A peace advocacy symposium, integrating the lecture on the atrocities done by the group of NPA and candle lighting as a symbol of peace were also conducted during the ceremony.

In a press release, Dacoscos said “the community took a vow to give loyalty to the government and abandon the wrong ideology that once they were deceived by. In addition, they pledged to withdraw their support to Communist Party of the Philippines because it only pushed to the bloody revolution for almost how many years, thus, it only contributes despair, lost and sorrow to the community.”

Dacoscos also urged the rebels to lay down their arms and surrender to the government.

They should go back to the mainstream society to receive the government programs, he said, adding they will have their normal lives back to them as they will enjoy their everyday living with their family.

Two weeks ago, 113 NPA supporters also returned to the fold of law in Himamaylan City.

Twenty-seven came from Barangay Mahalang and 86 were from Barangay Buenavista.

They simultaneously took their oath of allegiance after they decided to renounce the terrorist organization at the barangay hall of Mahalang village. (GYM)
