Unega not fielding bets vs non-members

SECOND District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., secretary-general of United Negros Alliance (Unega), assured rival Love Negros they will not field candidates in towns and cities whose incumbent mayors are non-members of the party except in some few areas.

"There are areas where Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has also committed long before the merger talks," Escalante said.

He specifically mentioned the case in the Fifth District where Unega has already committed to Board Member Alain Gatuslao for his intention to run for congressman.

Love Negros has named on Sunday, September 23, Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon as their bet for congressman in the Fifth District.

Escalante also said since Board Member David Albert Lacson is incumbent in the Third District, Unega will also support him.

He said in Himamaylan City, Marañon Jr. has also committed to former vice mayor Raymond Tongson and in Silay City Unega may also issue a certificate of nomination to former Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano if he decides to run against incumbent Mayor Mark Andrew Golez.

Escalante said the leadership of Unega will meet today after Love Negros has officially announced the merger and named Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson as the standard bearer for the 2019 elections.

Unega will also come out with their line-up in the province. (TDE)
