Death toll in Naga landslide rises to 60

(UPDATED) -- The number of fatalities in the massive landslide that buried dozens of homes in the City of Naga, Cebu, has increased to 60, while several others remain missing as of Tuesday afternoon, September 25.

The landslide, which happened early morning Thursday, September 20, buried around several houses in Sitio Sindulan, Barangay Tina-an and Barangay Naalad, sending rescuers scrambling to find survivors after some sent text messages pleading for help.

Six days after the incident, search, rescue and retrieval operation are ongoing, as according to police, there are still reports from victims' kins that they are still receiving text messages and calls from the cellular phones of some of the trapped victims.

The City of Naga Police Station earlier stated 66 were killed in the incident, however, the Incident Command Post clarified there were 60 deaths, 18 injured and 28 missing.
