SENATOR Antonio Trillanes IV was arrested around 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, by the National Capital Region police and was brought to the Makati City Police Station headquarters for booking procedure.

The senator, who said earlier that he will not resist arrest, was met at the Senate lobby by the arresting team led by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Guillermo Eleazar.

The arrest came hours after the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 issued the warrant for Trillanes's arrest over the rebellion charges against him in relation to the Manila Peninsula Siege in 2007.

The charges were revived based on Proclamation 572, which was issued by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 31. The proclamation voided the amnesty granted to the senator by the Benigno Aquino III administration.

Trillanes, who has been holed up in his office since the proclamation was made known to the public on September 4, voluntarily came down from his 5th floor Senate office together with Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo and Senators Joel Villanueva, Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino and Risa Hontiveros.

The group passed through the back door of the Senate building.

Trillanes said earlier that he will post bail at the Makati RTC Branch 150. (Al Padilla/SunStar Philippines)
