Cebu set for CVRAA games

TEAM Cebu City football squad is geared up to compete for the coveted secondary division crown in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CV-RAA) tournament this month at the Don Bosco Boys Home in Liloan, Cebu.

Team Cebu City, which is represented by football powerhouse Paref-Springdale, is entering the last stage of its preparation for the prestigious tournament and is aiming to bag the crown after falling short last year.

“This team is stronger than last year’s team tactically and technically,” Team Cebu City coach Mario Ceniza told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.

Team Cebu City only played a single 11 a-side game, against Cebu Province, in its entire preparation since the squad started its training last December.

Representative

Paref-Springdale earned the right to represent Cebu City after winning the title in last year’s Cebu City Olympics. It beat Abellana National School (ANS), 5-4, in a thrilling penalty shootout at the Cebu City Sports Complex.

The team is composed of 11 players from Paref-Sprigdale and is reinforced by four players from ANS.

“There is no problem in the gelling of the players because these are the same players that I handled in the POF,” said Ceniza.

The core of this Team Cebu City squad was the same players that played and won last year’s Philippine Olympic Festival in Cagayan de Oro.

Victories

Cebu Province, represented by Don Bosco Boys Home, won the CVRAA football title last year after beating host team Du-maguete, 2-1, at the Siliman football field.

The opening of the CVRAA tournament will be on Feb. 8 while the games will commence the following day.

There are 10 teams in both the secondary and elementary division, that will compete in the competition.
