Baguio hosts challenging TNF 100 race

WITH the success of its inaugural run in 2008, the North Face 100 Philippines is set to test Baguio's trails as the Summer Capital welcomes long distance runners who are up for greater challenges and the guts to discover the extent of human endurance.

Owing to the natural beauty of its trails, terrain and renowned reputation as a tourist haven, the North face has chosen Baguio to be the setting for the TNF 100 with the potential partnership hoping to elevate the TNF 100 as a must experience event.

Expected to join the race are long distance runners from the local, regional, national and international participants in the four categories in the race slated April 24 to 25.

Close to 1,000 participants are expected in the off-road race with prizes at stake in the 100 kilometer race, the event which TNF 100 is known for. Also included in the race are the 50k, 20k, 10k and group competitions.

"We feel excited and at the same time we're very happy because North Face has chosen our city for this big sporting event," said Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. during his weekly Ugnayang Panlungsod program last Thursday.

The North Face 100 is the first ultra trail marathon series in the Asia Pacific Region where participants are tasked to complete 100km of endurance running set on various terrains.

Launched in 2008, the event sprawls through Australia, Singapore and China which introduced trail running to a discerning audience and has elevated ultra marathons to a whole new realm.

Done in the most challenging, unspoiled and breathtaking landscape in each host country, TNF 100 is set to test the limits of human endurance, celebrate the passion for the outdoors and exemplify the North Face spirit.

Registration period for the event starts March 1 to April 11 through Raquel Serrano.
