GRAND Masters (GM) will spice up the 6th Atty. Jong Guevarra Cup Mindanao Chess Festival slated Saturday, September 29, at the Food Hall of Gaisano Mall of Toril, Davao City.
Lawyer Jong Guevarra, in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao, said GMs Joey Antonio and Darwin Laylo, who are both former national champions, will be forces to reckon with in the open division. Jayson Salubre is defending champion.
GM candidate Oliver Dimakiling, who freshly won the Iligan Open, also confirmed his entry in the event that expects over 200 participants.
Jardin del Roca, led by Guevarra himself, will defend the tatluhan division.
Guevarra will be reinforced by his new teammates John Ray and Neptali Batucan.
Guevarra teamed up with Jimmy Dano and Alfred Moulic last year.
Cash prizes of P15,000, P10,000, P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000 await the top five placers.
The sixth to 10th placers, meanwhile, will claim P1,000 each including the top female player.
The top three kiddies will take home P2,500, P1,500 and P1,000 while the top female will also claim P1,000.
The tatluhan event stakes P65,000 for the champion while the next four placers will receive P35,000, P20,000, P10,000 and P5,000.
A consolation prize of P4,000 will be given to the sixth to 10th placers and another P3,000 for the 11th to 15th placers.
Registration fees are P350 (open category), P150 (kiddies) and P4,500 (tatluhan).
