GETTING over a breakup, unrequited love, or a blossoming relationship cut short can be quite challenging. But it is also a process that has to run its course. While allowing the process to complete, you don’t have to stay cooped up in your room. The world has a lot to offer in terms of helping you move on or release all your feelings of hugot.

In the Philippines alone, you can visit a lot of beautiful places that will help you forget your heartache, frustration, disappointment, and all the negative feelings from the breakup or the unfulfilled relationship.

1. Sagada

Sagada became the ultimate place for those who want to let their hugot out after the release of the hit movie That Thing Called Tadhana and everyone’s climbing Mt. Kiltepan to watch a breathtaking sunrise and scream their heart out.

2. Batanes

A Batanes trip might be a bit costly, but the scenery and serenity of the place are worth every peso. The archipelago province’s natural beauty does prove to be an effective distraction, although you might feel bad about leaving the islands behind. Make sure to stop by the Honesty Coffee Shop to remind you that there still honest people in the world, unlike your cheating ex.

3. Siquijor

While legends abound about Siquijor’s mangkukulams may abound, you can move on more beautifully if you spend more time in its untouched beaches, waterfalls, and caves.

4. Siargao

As the surfing capital of the Philippines, you should also try getting on a surfing board and brave the waves. If you are courageous enough to try and face the gigantic waves in surfing spots like Cloud 9, then you definitely have enough courage to get over your heartbreak. Don’t miss visiting picturesque beaches in Siargao, including Naked, Guyam, and Dako.

5. La Union

Once you’re done grieving over a relationship that wasn’t meant to be, you can channel all your energy towards learning a new skill, such as surfing, in La Union. You’d not only learn something new but you’ll return with a good tan and maybe, even some new friends, too.

6. Baguio

Enjoy the cold, old charm of Baguio and emote as much as you want. You might even be able to write some pretty poems or stories from the flood of emotions while you’re walking around Session Road, visiting quirky stores and art havens, or going on a drinking spree in the city’s underground pubs. There is even a Cemetery of Negativism in the city, where you can symbolically bury all your bad feelings from the breakup. The gesture alone, despite how made-up the cemetery is, should be therapeutic for you in some way.

7. Cebu

Cebu also has top beaches, where you can wash your bad emotions away, but it also offers a lot of adventures, such as mountain climbing, canyoneering, waterfall hopping, diving, and more! These adrenaline-pumping adventures might be able to help you move on a little faster. While you may be single and trying to move on, you can keep your heart beating by getting on all these adventures, making Cebu the place to be for those who are healing a broken heart.

8. Boracay

The world-renowned beach has one of the most awesome sunsets, the best parties at night, and the most exciting activities during the day that will keep you occupied almost 24/7. This is perfect if you don’t want to be dwelling on your thoughts alone.

9. Bacolod

Go to The Ruins in Talisay City, Bacolod, also known as the Taj Mahal of Negros, to remind you that great love still exists, just like how Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson gave the old structure to his wife. While you might no longer want to dwell in your painful romantic past, you can still appreciate the well-preserved ancestral homes and buildings all over Bacolod.

10. Palawan

Let the beauty of Palawan help you nudge a little bit further in your moving-on process. You can go to Coron and hike Mt. Tapyas, soak in Maquinit Springs, take lots of pictures at the scenic Lake Kayangan with its rock formations, swim in the hidden Twin Lagoon, or go diving in Barracuda Lake, among others.

Bonus: Camiguin

Soak in Ardent Hot Springs in Camiguin and let your muscles, including your heart, relax. Enjoy the natural body of water that can heat up to 40 degrees, thanks to Mt. Hibok Hibok. Climb Mt. Timpoong, breathe in fresh air, and take in the lush surroundings that you’ll see from up top. Of course, the Sunken Cemetery shouldn’t be forgotten.

Spoil your senses by visiting all these places and soon enough, you will be more focused on the wonders of nature instead of your heartache. The beauty of the places listed above will also remind you that there are still a lot of good things in store for you! Cheer up!
