Ceneco, Noceco drop power rates, too

LIKE Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco), the two other power distribution utilities in the province have also decreased their respective rates this month.

Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), catering to the largest number of electric consumers in the province including cities of Bacolod, Talisay and Silay and towns of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto, announced a drop of about P0.28 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

From P12.1384 per kWh in August, it went down to P11.8574 per kWh in September.

The decrease is mainly attributed to the reduction in generation charge resulted from the lower price of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), Ceneco Corporate Planning Division Manager Engr. Leomel Tambanillo said.

Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco), which covers consumers in the south, from Pulupandan to Hinoba-an, also reduced its power rate by P1.1949 per kWh.

This is the biggest reduction of the cooperative for its residential electricity rate since December 2017.

From the previous month's rate of P11.2529 per kWh, it significantly dropped to P10.0580 per kWh.

Jonas Discaya, general manager of Noceco, said the main driver of the lower electricity rate this month is the P0.9035 per kWh decrease in the generation charge.

Discaya said this is also because of the lower energy charge from WESM from which Noceco obtained a portion of its power supply.

Another factor was the scheduled outage from Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC), which the share of its power contracted by the cooperative was replaced by WESM.

"With lower electricity price from WESM, it resulted to a reduction on the average price of the generation rate," he said, however, it is expected that the generation rate next month will return to the normal pricing when PCPC resumes its operation.

Aside from generation charge, the systems loss and transmission charges also registered reduction of P0.1288 per kWh and P0.0541 per kWh, respectively.

The value-added tax (VAT) on these charges also went down by P0.1119 per kWh, Discaya said.

"Subsidy rates, however, such as lifeline and senior citizen registered a minimal increase of P0.0034 per kWh, but this was offset as the overall electricity rate went down," he added.

Earlier, the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) announced that its power rate for September has decreased by almost P0.44 per kWh.

Noneco caters to consumers in the northern portion of Negros Occidental, from E.B. Magalona to San Carlos City.

From P11.7092 per kWh in August, the cooperative's power rate went down to P11.2700 per kWh this month.

The reduction is mainly attributed to a decrease of P0.2451 per kWh in generation charge.

Another reduction of P0.1026 per kWh was noted in the transmission and systems loss charges.

For other charges like lifeline rate and taxes, the cooperative reported a decrease of P0.0916 per kWh.
