POLICE Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas said on Wednesday, September 26, that they are not monitoring the whereabouts of Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot, who was named by President Rodrigo Duterte as a drug protector.

Sinas said they have no knowledge if Loot went to the United States last August 28.

Loot sent a letter to Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, asking the latter to grant him an authority to travel to the United States last August 28.

Davide approved the request.

Sinas said Loot has no hindrance to travel abroad as there is no hold departure order issued against him.

Sinas, however, received reports that Loot had not attended past meetings with town and police officials.

It was reported earlier that Loot has been in hiding for fear of his life.

Loot, named as a narco-general, has denied involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Last May 13, Loot and his family survived an ambush staged by still unidentified gunmen, but three of his employees and a civilian were wounded. (KAL)
