Corton victorious in Brave CF debut

JON CHRIS Corton serves notice to the stacked flyweight division of Brave Combat Federation (CF) after his impressive victory in Bahrain’s top mixed martial arts (MMA) promotions.

Corton, after almost a year of cage absence scored a unanimous decision victory against Bahrain’s Hussain Ayyad in the undercard of Brave CF 16 headlined by Jarrah Al Selawe who stole the welterweight title from Carlston Harris.

Selawe stopped Harris in the first round with a TKO at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.

With the win, Corton improved to 6 – 3, who last saw action in October last year stopping of Jhunior Diapolit of D' Elements MMA in the co-main event of Team Lakay Championship 14 after his three round unanimous decision loss against Riley Dutro in April 2016.

Corton’s teammate Crisanto Pitpitunge however was not as lucky suffering his second defeat in the promotion after bowing out to Hamza Kooheji from Bahrain.

Pitpitunge, who is also a police officer of the Police Regional Office- Cordillera, saw action in March earlier this year when he squared off against Jalal Al Daja via a first round triangle choke.

It was a sorry loss for the former PXC bantamweight champion after promising victory in October last year against Ralf Noy Francisco of D' Elements MMA in the main event of Team Lakay Championship 14 at the Baguio Convention Center.

In other bouts, Bubba Jenkins dominated all five rounds to snatch the featherweight title from Elias Boudegzdame while 10-time BJJ World Champ Bruno Malfacine remains undefeated after submitting Cris Rodriguez Jr. in the first round as Gadzhimusa Gadzhiev scored a TKO against Mohammed Fakhreddine.

Mounir Lazzez finished Sweden’s Dmitrijs Homjakovs in the second round as South Africa’s Chad Hanekom secured a second-round win over the undefeated Italian, Leon Aliu.

Another debuting fighter, Guram Kutateladze made his promotional debut with an incredible win by unanimous decision over Erick da Silva.

In other matches, Filipino fighter Vaughn Donayre was submitted by Flavio Serafim, while Nawras Abzakh suffered a unanimous decision loss against Louie Sanoudakis. (Roderick Osis)
