HEALTHY produce may soon be highlighted in a weekly market day.

Ester Andiso and Flor Pedro from the Department of Agriculture (DA) welcomed the measure to feature a day of organic produce for a centralized organic market day possibly at the Igorot Park.

Andiso and Pedro from the Agri Business and Marketing Division said assistance from the department will be given to support the city market day.

DA will be in charge of certifying registered organic products to assure quality.

Pedro said there is a slow but growing movement for organic produce in the region with the DA advocating farmers to shift to organic or at the least practice Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) which is seen as a prelude to the shift.

Pedro added there are outlets to buy the organic produce in both Baguio and Benguet establishments which has gotten a following.

The proposed law by barangay chief and Councilor Michael Lawana aims to have a convergence of organic products in the city in a bid to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Lawana said guidelines and a schedule for the market day will be deliberated as possible venues will also be considered aside from the Igorot Park at Burnham.
