A LAWYER survived an ambush attempt by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen Wednesday, September 26, along Candellaria St. across the Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO 11) in Davao City.
Wilmer Quiñones Donasco, 44, dodged the bullets, but was wounded when he was hit by broken glass debris.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said the shooting incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, two days after a lawyer was shot dead in Tagum City.
Gaspan said Donasco was about to park his Chevrolet pick-up near the Hall of Justice when two unidentified men drove by on a motorcycle.
The back rider opened fire at the victim twice, but Donasco was able to avoid the gunfire.
Gaspan said investigation is still ongoing to determine the motive and the identity of the suspects.
The attack on Donasco happened two days after lawyer Connie del Rio-Villamor, who worked as community relations head of Compostela Valley-based Apex Mining Corporation, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant.
Villamor was driving her sports utility vehicle (SUV) when two assailants shot her near the Tagum City National Comprehensive High School in Purok Gabayan 2, Visayan Village.
Police Senior Superintendent Allan Manibog, Davao del Norte police chief, said that he recommended the creation of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG).
“Right away, I convened the SITG Villamor and I will be the SITG commander. Sinubmit ko yong application sa regional office for approval of the creation of SITG," he said during the AFP-PNP Press Corps media forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel Wednesday.
He added that he also convened possible members of the task group following the absence of the order.
Manibog said they have initial information on Villamor's killing. They are looking at different angles such as her profession or her businesses.
“Right now, we are pursuing some leads. Hopefully it will lead to the resolution of the death of Attorney Villamor,” he said.
They are also collecting the necessary evidence such as the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of the establishments near the area.
Meanwhile, the Davao Police Regional Office (PRO 11) urged those who have received threats to their lives to coordinate with the police for proper action.
