GMA in Cebu today, to promote Cyber Corridor at Asiatown

PRESIDENT Gloria Arroyo will be visiting Cebu to highlight the province’s contribution to the business process outsour-cing (BPO) industry in her “Cyber Corridor” tour.

Arroyo, who will be flying in from Bacolod, will showcase one of her administration’s milestone projects, the “Cyber Corridor.”

Fayette Riñen of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 7 said the sector has provided jobs to millions of Filipinos.

The tour includes Baguio, Metro Manila, Clark and Davao and Cebu, which Arroyo cited in her State of the Nation Address as a major contributor to the growth of the BPO industry in the country.

Arroyo will be at the Asiatown IT Park in Barangay Lahug.

The IT Park hosts 44 information technology (IT), IT-enabled and BPO firms that employ 13,500 workers and around 5,000 support service employees.

The Asiatown IT Park, which is at the former Lahug airport, was the flagship project of Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corp. (CPVDC) and the first IT Park accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority in the Visayas and Mindanao.

It positions itself as a viable IT park for locators engaged in the business of IT, information and communications technology, IT-enabled services and BPOs.

Arroyo will proceed to the park upon her arrival at the Mactan Cebu International Airport at 4:30 p.m. today.

At the entrance archway of the Asiatown IT Park, Arroyo, along with 44 IT and BPO industry key players led by CPVDC president Francis Monera, will board a coaster, which will go around the area for a close inspection of the buildings.

The tour will end at the Qualfon Quality Contact Services office at Skyrise 3 building, where Arroyo will be viewing and interacting with applicants and IT professionals.

Arroyo will also tour the training and demonstration rooms and facilities of Qualfon.

She will be escorted to the building’s 11th floor for the continuing tour to the Human Resource and “Transformative” Approach for the IT professionals.

Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama will give his welcome remarks before Cebu Educational Development Foundation IT president Bonifacio Belen will give the president an overview of the IT developments in Cebu.

A media interaction with the president will follow. (JKV)
