Walk as one against breast cancer

BREAST cancer claims thousands of lives around the world every year and to date, it remains to be among the top killer of Filipino women.

This hard fact is backed up by a staggering figure of 10,000 cases with a mortality rate of 40 percent, according to the recent report of the Philippine Cancer Registry.

In line with its ongoing campaign on fighting against the deadly disease and to celebrate the Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, many public and private companies and organizations exert extra effort in spreading the word of caution for breast cancer that can cause grief to any mother, daughter, sister, niece or friend.

And even though there is a low number of cases for men, they also suffer breast cancer. Thus, it affects anyone regardless of age, race, social and economic status.

As part of its commitment to support “breast cancer warriors,” one healthcare institution in Clark, Pampanga, is stepping up to promote awareness and lead the fight against the said illness.

This October 7, The Medical City (TMC) Clark is set to host the Pink Walk, a significant event for breast cancer patients as well as individuals who are interested in supporting the activity to be held at the Clark Global City (formerly Global Gateway Logistics City) from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

The endeavor is spearheaded by the hospital’s Breast Center which opened last October 2017, and its Breast Cancer Support Group composed of “strong, bold, and empowered” women diagnosed with breast cancer; relatives of breast cancer patients; survivors of breast cancer; and advocates of breast cancer prevention.

Part of the Pink Walk is the 3-kilometer Pink Walkathon, Meet and Greet with the Breast Cancer Support Group, and exclusive tour to the state-of-the-art Breast Center.

The free event hopes to gather over 300 Pink-clad walkers who will stride and unite in solidarity to express support and honor those who have successfully beaten and those currently battling breast cancer.

Aside from the Pink Walk, TMC Clark has lined up activities, lectures, and gatherings to help cancer patients overcome trial brought about by the illness.
