Father ‘chiseled to death’ daughter

A 24-YEAR-OLD father believed to be mentally deranged stabbed to death his seven-month-old daughter using a chisel.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. Monday in the suspect’s house in Hinigaran town, southern Negros Occidental, a police report said.

Hinigaran Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Senior Inspector Sonny Boy Bernus identified the suspect as Joebert Mana-ay, a resident of Sitio Balabag in Barangay Candumarao of the town.

The suspect also injured his two nephews, who are minors, including his wife Jean, and another kin, Francis Fernandez, 37, in the ensuing commotion, the police report said.

The victims were rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, while Mana-ay is presently detained at the Hinigaran Police Station facing parricide charges.

Meanwhile, Nilo Paguntalan, a barangay tanod in Murcia town, Central Negros, reported to local police that he found a cadaver lying beside the house of a certain Eduardo Rendon at Hacienda Angela in Barangay Abu-abu on Sunday night.

Policemen led by Senior Police Officer 1 Jovito Tejado identified the body as that of Christopher Vicente, 35, and resident of Barangay Valderrama in Culasi, Antique.

Vicente's body bore stab wounds in the chest and mouth, Tejado said.

His cadaver was brought to Angeles Funeral Homes in Bacolod City for autopsy, according to Police Chief Inspector Simeon Gane, Murcia PNP chief.

Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) Director Manuel Felix directed the Murcia police to expedite the conduct of follow-up investigation to determine the victim’s cause of death.
