WITH a good number of coffee shops popping up around the metro with their highly skilled baristas, it only means that Cebuanos love their coffee. There’s just something about that “cup of Joe” that keeps everyone powered through the day.

On A.S Fortuna St., the industrial-themed Coffee Factory serves fresh brewed coffee where customers can choose what kind of beans they want for their drink. On top of that, the place serves unique refreshments, has a “good vibes” playlist and overall, has a friendly environment.

But above the coffee shop is where the magic happens. Coffee beans from Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, The Philippines, Brazil and Kenya are roasted fresh.

Cafe owner Eum Hak Sun, a coffee enthusiast and bean roaster, aims to provide a venue for coffee lovers in the city that offers freshly roasted coffee beans for everyone to enjoy—even in the comfort of their own homes.

“There are a few techniques that can improve the quality of your coffee, just like how I roast coffee beans. And there are so many ways to enjoy coffee,” he said.

In line with National Coffee Day, here are some coffee hacks to make one’s coffee lifestyle a whole better.

Buy fresh, whole beans

You can never go wrong with good, fresh coffee beans. Coffee is only as good as the beans you start with. Coffee beans have their peak flavor just days after they have been roasted and should be used within a month from their roast date. Buy from local coffee roasters as they are most likely to sell fresher coffee beans as they roast on the spot.

Store coffee correctly

This will keep the flavors fresh for as long as possible. A vacuum sealed container with a one-way valve is recommended by many. Food containers will also do as long as it is an opaque, air-tight container. Room temperature is also best as air, moisture, heat and light can destroy coffee beans.

Make coffee ice cubes

Regular ice cubes down one’s iced coffee. Keep iced coffee chilled with coffee ice cubes. Pour leftover coffee into an ice cube tray and let it freeze. Use these cubes for one’s next coffee break.

Reuse coffee grounds

Don’t throw away coffee grounds. Turn them into a coffee scrub to nourish and exfoliate the skin and reduce wrinkles and stretch marks. Just add some coconut oil and it will ready for one’s next self-care session. Coffee is good for the skin and is usually used as a health and beauty product.

Share

Of course, coffee tastes a lot better if it is shared with someone.
