DTI to attend food fair expo in South Korea

THE Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-11) will participate in a food fair exposition in South Korea in November to promote Davao products, an official of the department said.

DTI 11 regional director Ma. Belinda Q. Ambi said that in this way, Koreans can have a taste of the Filipino culture especially the Dabawenyo experience through the region’s agricultural produce.

“We are hoping nga madala nato ang chocolate products nato like cacao, ug pati ang coffee products sa Korea (We are hoping to bring the chocolate products like cacao, and even coffee products to Korea),” Ambi said in an interview on Tuesday, September 25.

Ambi added that even other renowned international products like coconut and banana from the Davao region will also have a share in the spotlight at the food exposition.

“Even ang atong mga products sa coconut like desiccated coconuts, and banana labi na ang banana chips kay kusog man pud iyang market mao atung dal-on pud sa Korea (Even our products for coconut like desiccated coconuts, and banana, especially banana chips since these are highly marketable, we will bring these to Korea),” Ambi said.

She added that they are planning on bringing Halal food to the expo.

When South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Han Dong-man visited last August, he mentioned the possibility of exporting durian to his country.

Ambi said this will be a good avenue to expand products as well to the foreign market.

Based on Korean Embassy records, presently, Korea remains the fourth largest trading partner of the Philippines, with trade and investments amounting to $14.3 billion in 2017.
