Alvarez: Thinking about how you think

HAVE you ever thought about how you think? Do you ever think how many positive thoughts you have in a day? Or are your thoughts mostly negative? Don’t you know that people with negative thoughts are those who are often unhappy because they attract negative vibes and create an unhealthy environment? Let me share to you four simple ways to prevent having negative thoughts.

Stop overprotecting yourself. Not because you have been hurt and cheated several times, you will never allow circumstances to hurt you. You can never live a perfect life and remember that all beings are vulnerable and it is impossible that no one can hurt you. If you are always making sure that you are doing all things without mistake means you are over protecting your self which could lead you to become too suspicious. You will suspect that people will harm, gossip, bully and cheat you. You will live everyday of your life thinking crazily about these negative thoughts that never exist.

Be productive. Productivity does not mean you have to be in a corporate world or in top management. Whether you are employed or not, you can be useful in your own creative way. Whatever makes you busy now and it is contributing great to your family, friends or in the community, that is already a great work! Don’t accuse people of belittling you because how you think becomes what you are. You may feel so insignificant because it is the negative information you feed your thoughts.

Learn to trust others. Trusting is the foundation of thinking positively. When you trust, you are positive that what surrounds you nourishes your body and soul. When there is mistrust, you will never be at peace because your thoughts would dictate that people are deceitful. You will begin to question all people’s purpose, plans and resist suggestions. You will live a life stopping every opportunity that comes your way.

Don’t over-criticize. It is not healthy to criticize all things that seem imperfect to you. Try to start and end your day without judging others to clean your thoughts. Never find faults. Stop correcting politicians and popular celebrities. Refrain from commenting your angry opinions in social media. Don’t overreact to television news and do not give negative remarks to your unruly neighbors. You can never change this imperfect world through your unkind words.

Truly, I can say that if we allow our thoughts to think negatively, it absolutely is going to destroy us and everyone else. Of course, we cannot live a life only with happy thoughts. But we can have negative thoughts at times but persist not to be like them. With willingness and practice, we can attain mastery over them and live a positive life. Remember that our thoughts carry us to where we intend to go. So, mind your mind!
