AFTER a nine-year hunt, the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) women's volleyball team reclaimed the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) 2018 Games volleyball title by dethroning defending champion Cor Jesu College of Digos City (CJC), 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 15-11, in the finals held Saturday at the Fr. Martin Hall of Addu Jacinto Campus.

Ateneo last won the women's volleyball title in 2009.

“I did not expect na makuha tong championship dahil yung naka finals namin was the defending champion and a very strong team behind its veteran line up who won the title last year (We didn't expect to win since we played the defending champs in the finals),” Addu head coach Shen Alagao said.

CJC was also the lone team to beat them in the elimination round. Ateneo and CJC were in the same bracket. The loss relegated Ateneo to second in the group standing as CJC was on top.

Ateneo spikers earlier demolished powerhouse Holy Cross of Davao College in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown against the defending champions.

Allysa Mendiola, Mireya Shayne Louisse Alagao, Carol Concon, Elisha Bird, Karessa Parcon, Katherine Bermudez, Mariel Guiral, Heaven Amisola, Catherine Jane Santos, Rychel Constantino, Francheska Picar, Quenie Camporedondo, Ingrid Rose Pichon and Catherine Janine Rosales bannered the Ateneo team.
