THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao Region Coaches’ Clinic opened Saturday, September 29, at Arcadia Active Lifestyle Center.
The two-day activity is part of SBP's grassroots development program and an outreach program for the provincial coaches.
“Instead na pumunta sila ng Manila, yung clinic na mismo yung pupunta sa mga provinces nila,” Gilas assistant coach Joseph Enrique Uichico said in an interview.
Uichico said they will share all their knowledge about the game which will start with level one or what he called the fundamentals.
“This will be a whole-year round program of SBP. We will visit 16 Regions all over the country and Davao City is the 13th,” Uichico said, adding that they plan to hold two coaching clinics in each province next year.
The clinic is usually pegged at P1,000 for each participants but SBP regional director and presidential adviser for sports Glenn Escandor offered it free for Davao region coaches.
SBP executive program officer Ronel Leuterio, for his part, said the region will continue to support as they believe the significance of the program.
“Our coaches deserve the knowledge they may get from the clinic. It may not be in an instant but I believe our coaches will slowly evolve into something,” he said.
Meanwhile, Uichico along with Far Eastern University coaches Ryan Betia and Mark Solano and Xander Gubat of SBP discussed the importance of defense to some 200 coaches from the Davao region.
