Gun ban nets 48 in Western Visayas

THE Regional Election Monitoring Action Center of Police Regional Office (PRO) in Western Visayas recorded to date 48 persons arrested for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office topped with the highest number accomplishment of 13 arrested violators, followed by Capiz with eight, Antique and Aklan with seven each, Bacolod City with six, Iloilo province with three, Iloilo City and Guimaras with two each.

There are now 29 cases filed against the violators while other cases are still pending for filing.

The arrests also resulted in the confiscation of 41 firearms, 10 bladed weapons, and one grenade.

Police Chief Superintendent Isagani Cuevas said there is no let-up in various police operations like checkpoints and police visibility to monitor and arrest violators of the gun ban.

"We want to deter violence as we come close to the May 10 national and local elections," Cuevas said.
