PISD spikers keep title

DEFENDING champion Precious International School of Davao (PISD) kept its title after beating Brokenshire College of Toril (BCT), 25-14, 25-23, 25-21, in the finals of the Davao Association of Private Schools and Administrators (Daprisa) Games 2018 high school boys’ volleyball tournament held at the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS) gym Friday evening.

The win was indeed a memorable three peat for the Dion Karlo Anthonee Capinpin-coached PISD spikers which will represent Unit 8 in the upcoming Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet slated October.

"It was not an easy journey back to the finals or much more to defend the title. It was not our strength nor our skills, but always His grace," Capinpin, on his Facebook post, said.

He said they don't have a perfect team but has players with teachable hearts.

"I’m not even close to be called a good coach, but I give it to my players for giving me not only a very challenging task but also an opportunity to grow as a coach and as a person," he added.

Capinpin witnessed how hard his wards trained to keep the title.

"They sacrificed their vacation, some family gatherings, and even endured body pains. No matter what the result may have been, I am very proud of them," he said.

The multi-titled coach, however, aims to improve for the upcoming city meet.

Meanwhile, PISD's Joshua Angelo Gonzales was named most valuable player (MVP) and best attacker while teammates Jeremiah Macadangdang(best setter), Kristian Edgar Floresca(best blocker) and Julius Caesar Terante(best libero) also received special awards.

Other individual awardees were Reineroi Dela Cruz of PNJKIS (best server) and Johannes Lacierda of BCT (best opposite attacker).
