‘Banana Festival’ set at the reformatory center

PREPARATIONS are underway by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for the conduct of “Banana Festival” at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC).

Jail Officer 3 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCRC information officer, said the Banana Festial is part of its activity in line with the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Celebration.

The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival reels off October 1 and the highlight of which is on October 12, the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar or locally known as “Fiesta Pilar.”

Comprendio said the Banana Festival will be held on October 10 to showcase the different banana species grown in this city.

Comprendio said the conduct of the festival is the initiative of Chief Inspector Nathaniel Aljas, ZCRC warden, upon learning banana is abundant in this city.

He said the banana will be supplied by the visitors of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) formerly known as inmates.

He said the festival will be coupled with the exhibits of handicraft of the PDLs such as slippers, bags, lanterns and others.

He said the PDLs will have their own version of street dance competition inside the ZCRC compound and cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners.

This is the third year the ZCRC is conducting their own activity in line with the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.

The first was the “Curacha Festival” in 2016 and second was the “Satti Festival” in 2017. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
