CCSC to use P10-M prize for facilities, equipment

THE Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) plans to use a major portion of its cash prize for winning the overall title in the Philippine National Games (PNG) to purchase sports equipment and to improve sports facilities.

CCSC chairman Edward Hayco relayed this to SunStar Cebu yesterday after Cebu City received the P10-million cash prize from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

PSC commissioner Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez turned over the P10-million cheque that was handed to Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña at the Mayor’s Office in Cebu City Hall.

“The major portion of the cash prize will be used for sports equipment and sports facilities. Basically, so that all the athletes and the sporting community will be benefited,” said Hayco.

Hayco added that they are investing for the future and the sporting equipment would be useful in the training of the athletes.

Cebu City emerged as the overall champion in the national sporting meet organized and conducted by PSC last May in Cebu City that was joined by hundreds of local government units. Cebu City won a total of 48 gold medals, 69 silver medals and 79 bronzes.

“We are currently identifying what sports equipment that are needed right now. We will also focus on the events that have won for us (in PNG),” he said.

With regards to which sports facilities will be developed, Hayco said that it will be discussed in the CCSC board meeting with the recommendation of Cebu City Mayor Osmeña.

Meanwhile, Fernandez will also turn over the P2-million cheque to overall fifth placer Cebu Province at 2 p.m. today at the Governor’s Office at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

The overall second placer Baguio City will receive P8 million, third placer Mandaluyong City will get P6 million and fourth placer Davao City will pocket P4 million, respectively.

The prizes for the top five teams were doubled when President Rodrigo Duterte attended the opening ceremony last May. (RSC)
