CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda is set to run for vice governor in the coming 2019 midterm elections.

Pineda, in a talk with reporters on Monday, October 1, said “I think the people will understand that I would still want to serve Kapampangans.”

Pineda, 67, has served the province in the last 30 years serving different municipal and provincial positions before getting elected to the top provincial seat.

The governor said in jest that she fears the onset of early Alzheimer’s disease if she would stop her routine in public service, one that, she disclosed, has been a part of her life for so many years.

The governor added it will be up to the people if they would still want her to continue in public service.

Pineda said she is confident her son, who is the vice governor will lead the province well. Vice Governor Dennis Pineda is set to run for governor next year.

The elder Pineda said her son will continue what she has started.

Given the chance to serve as vice governor, Pineda said she will advance more laws that will benefit senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

While there are national laws for the seniors, there is still the need to have concrete programs for the well-being of senior citizens, she said.

“I will also look on possible legislation for out-of-school youth,” Pineda said, adding that support systems should be in place to help keep the youth in school.

She said that the education for the youth is a vital component of the fight against drugs.

Pineda said a lot still needs to be done in Pampanga in terms of services.

“What is important is that in my almost nine years of service, I have not stopped working for the people,” Pineda said.
