Toral: E-Services Philippines

THE 10th E-Services Philippines outsourcing conference and exhibit will be held on Feb. 8 and 9 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

There is much to be proud of this event organized by CITEM, Board of Investments, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The trade show has done a lot to boost the Philippines outsourcing industry. It has promoted locations outside of the capital as outsourcing destination. These include early players like Cebu, Subic, Clark, Davao, Cagayan De Oro. Today, more and more locations in the country are becoming hot spots for investment such as Iloilo, Baguio, Pangasinan, and Dumaguete.

In addition, DTI’s support paved the way for industry associations to work together and set the direction, through a roadmap in as early as 2002 to 2005, as to where we are heading in this sector. This gets updated regularly to reflect the needs of the industry.

Organizations such as the Business Processing Association of the Philippines also got formed and their collaboration with the government helped foster more investments in the country.

In Cebu, “Make I.T. Cebu” became a flagship campaign to establish the island as a global outsourcing destination of choice in the year 2000. The forum, Cebu is I.T., which happened in Cebu in March 2000 also triggered the formation of Cedfit which has served as role model for many associations in different parts of the Philippines in fostering academe and industry collaboration to help support the growing outsourcing industry in their respective cities. Note that I’m writing all this from memory and would like to ask the indulgence of early players then if there is any inaccuracy in the event title I mentioned here.

What makes E-Services Philippines 2010 hot based on the press conference last month are areas like supply chain management outsourcing, legal processing and other knowledge-based processes.

How E-Services Philippines became a big part of the growth of our ICT industry makes this event a very sentimental one, at least for people like me who were part of it since its inception. It is important for industry players to show up and be there to express support especially for the new players, learn about their challenges, and see how we can help further, be part of the solution.

With that I look forward to seeing you folks next week at E-Services Philippines. (http://digitalfilipino.com)
