Oplan Kalinaw nets 539 persons with arrest warrants

AT LEAST 539 suspects with standing warrants of arrest were nabbed by security forces during the conduct of Oplan Kalinaw since its launching last May 2017, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said.

During her State of the City Address (Soca), the mayor said that from May 2017 to July 2018, there were a total of 530 Oplan Kalinaw operations that were conducted in different areas in the city.

The operation is a comprehensive effort to counter terrorism and anti-criminality operations including identification, background check and profiling of transient residents in urban communities and manhunt operations of wanted persons or fugitives hiding in urban communities. It also includes community service for residents.

Meanwhile, due to rampant reports of theft incidents in neighborhoods this year, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) conceptualized the Oplan Robbery, Akyat-Bahay, Theft and Snatching or (Rats) to address the problem.

“With all of DCPO’s programs, I congratulate the men and women of our police force headed by City Director Alexander Tagum for winning the “Best City Police Office” in the country for the year 2018,” she said.

With the current security situation, she urged the public’s cooperation especially during the inspection of security personnel which is only intended to ensure the city’s security from prevailing threats.

“We beefed up security in all of our entry points—strict protocols for passenger and private vehicles passing thru checkpoints have been in effect. While these safety and security precautions certainly cause some personal inconveniences, we have received generally positive feedback on how the checks are being done,” Duterte-Carpio said.

To augment the manpower strength of the Task Force Davao, she noted that there were three additional companies of special Cafgu active auxiliaries that were created and deployed in different parts of the city.

She added that the implementation of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program or (E-Clip) has been strengthened to entice the insurgents to return to the folds of the law in coordination with the Philippine Military.

“The midtown and uptown areas of the city have also been kept in peace thru the efforts of 1003rd Brigade of the Philippine Army. The brigade has recorded many successes in their focused combat military operation against the armed insurgents,” she said.
