Davao officials: Mayor’s Soca specific, doable

DAVAO City councilors and office heads commented that the State of the City Address (SOCA) of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is specific and doable.

The Soca delivered by Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday, October 2, at the City Countil, tackled the top 10 development priorities of the city.

These are education; health; poverty alleviation and different services; infrastructure development; solid waste management and environment; agriculture; investments and tourism; transportation planning and traffic management; disaster risk reduction; and peace and order.

“The Soca is an actual reflection of our city's gain and a doable projection,” Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Sr. said in a text message to Sunstar Davao on Tuesday.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang also said that that the mayor’s Soca is “very specific and doable,” while Councilor Avegayle Ortiz-Omalza said that it reflects the positive development of the city based on the performance and statistics report.

Meanwhile, the head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Rodrigo Bustillo, said that majority of the facts laid down by the city mayor about disaster risk reduction are “exactly” what they have been doing, however, the people should also follow advisories from authorities during disasters.

“We are very fortunate that the mayor shares our commitment to ensure water resource sustainability to proactively respond to the water needs of the city as we develop more sources to expand our service coverage,” Davao City Water District (DCWD) spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod said.

On the side of the environment advocates, as the mayor also gave emphasis on the city going green, Interface Development Interventions (IDIS), Inc. executive director Chinkie Peliño-Golle said they commend the mayor for emphasizing the importance of the proposed amendments in the Zoning Ordinance to protect and manage Shrine Hills.

“Another important policy statement is the stricter implementation of solid waste management act. In particular, the segregation of wastes and banning of single use plastics,” she said.
