Davao City collects P16M from jaywalkers, traffic violators

WITH 20,740 jaywalkers and other traffic violators apprehended by the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) from January to June 2018, the city government of Davao collected a total of P16.8 million.

During the State of the City Address (Soca) of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday, October 2, she said the CTTMO has always been relentless in implementing traffic rules and regulations, thus, the said apprehensions.

“The number of jaywalking violators has increased since the full implementation of the anti-jaywalking ordinance from 19,587 violators from the period of September to December 2017,” Duterte-Carpio said.

“The violators were given lectures with topics regarding traffic and pedestrian safety awareness,” she said, adding that CTTMO underscored the use of pedestrian lanes to lessen pedestrian traffic accidents and ease traffic flow.

Meanwhile, CTTMO head Dionisio Abude, said in a phone interview with SunStar Davao yesterday, that the total amount collected from these violators for the months of September 2017 to June 2018 will total to about P35 million.

“Didto man gyud atong focus sa traffic management, mao na atong ginatan-aw na maghatagan gyud ug solution (Our focus has been the traffic management and how to solve the traffic problems),” Abude said, adding that they have been strictly implementing rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, Abude also said they will continue to support the mayor, especially on the High-Priority Bus System (HPBS) project plans.

“Pursigido ta na ma-implement tanan ang giingon ni Mayor, tanan plano, dili lang sa mga infrastructures, pati sa status sa mga katawhan (We are driven to do everything that the mayor said, her plans, not only in the infrastructures but also in uplifting the lives of Dabawenyos),” Abude said.
