FIDA Cebu (Fashion Institute of Design and Arts-Cebu) was launched on Sept. 16, 2011 with the goal of providing education when it comes to fashion. Celebrating its seventh anniversary, it presented its graduation fashion show called “FIDA Odyssey” at The Northwing atrium, SM City Cebu last Sept. 16. Seen on the runway were its makeup graduates namely Rhino Jubela Deiparine, Rolito Cuizon, Toni Casco, Rizza Laron, Martha Opolentisima, Shantal Davidson and Frey Gamer; as well as those from the Personality Development and Modeling Workshop by MAC x Fida.
Also, Fida’s alumni Lisle Wadingan, Mara Dado, Rachel Rama, Killy Tampus, Free Barbusa, Eva Aguspina, Yoko Sato, Jonas Labastida, Ixa Escario, Jeanom Ursua, Maria Navarete and Percie Requiero presented their collections inspired by the Seven Wonders of the World; designs by Edwin Alba, Valerie Alvez, Edward James Castro, Yoren Tabar, Angela Dado, Bebes Garso, Lord Maturan, Mel Maria and Philipp Tampus were inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins. Percie won the award “Best Fida Alumni Design” while Angela won “Best Fida Mentor Design.”
That night was also the launch of HTP (Here’s The Plan), an event management and productions company introduced by its creative director and Fida mentor, Mark Anthony Masa.
Capping off the show were the collections of its five graduates.
Fashion design and merchandising graduate Sheena Si’s collection earned her the award for “Best FIDA Graduate Collection.”
“I feel so grateful because I received so much help from my schoolmates and the school itself,” she said. Called “Revival,” Sheena’s design was inspired by The Great Wall of China which, over time, has experienced reconditioning; much like her collection which expresses the beauty of creation using digital printing and fabric manipulation.
Apart from hers, collections of the four fashion design and apparel technology graduates graced the runway. Ana Lim whose collection “Nostalgic Daydream” was inspired by Machu Picchu located in Peru, specifically by its earthy tones and natural structure. She made use of materials like linen and jusi with touches of tortoise patterned resin chains for accent appliqués to name a few.
Titled “Modern Romance” is Gale Wong’s collection inspired by the Taj Mahal’s interior design, specifically its dome that creates a floral design which she interpreted in the form of embroideries using embroidered lace fabrics and peau de soie.
Tomy’s is the archeological city Petra in fashion form hence its name “Petrose.” The collection shows a fusion of colors and print manipulation, kept in minimalist silhouettes. These demi-couture pieces were made for those whose idea of fashion is a form of self-expression.
Unna Daniella showed a modern take on Mayan fashion with her “Maya” collection inspired by Chichén Itzá located at Yucatán , Mexico. Her seven-piece designs were made with materials like upholstery fabrics for fringe and textured pleats along with pieces from her stone accessories collection for the final touch.
