More national-funded projects in Davao

MAYOR Sara Duterte-Carpio reported a low accomplishment rate for the city government during her State of the City Address (Soca) last Tuesday, October 2, because Davao City had more national-funded projects.

“Nigamay atong accomplishments because naa tay mga national-funded projects (We have fewer accomplishments this year due to more national-funded projects),” Joseph Dominic S. Felizarta, head of the City Engineer’s Office, said during the i-Speak media forum Thursday, October 4.

Felizarta said the major projects, such as the Agdao Public Modernization already has a budget of P800 million for bidding while the Museo Dabawenyo project has P100 million budget.

Other projects such as City Archive, the new Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) building at People’s Park, the City Library at Palma Gil, are 70 percent completed.

“Daghan ta ug na-implement na mga projects. Ang uban ana, 70 percent na ang completion (We have projects that are already implemented and other ongoing now with 70 percent completion),” he said.

He also said that there was a need to prioritize national-funded projects due to their deadline, that is why city-funded and barangay-funded projects timeline were being moved.

Meanwhile, Felizarta said there are more barangay-funded projects than city-funded projects.

“In fact, 250 lang ang city-projects, ang sa barangay, halos niabot na ug isa ka libo (In fact, there are 250 city-projects only, while brangay-funded projects totaled to almost a thousand),” Felizarte said, adding that it actually prompted them to add 20 personnel to focus on the planning programming in both the city or barangay-funded projects.
