CAGAYAN de Oro’s winningest youth basketball coach and organizer of the coming Wilson 3x3 Basketball Challenge, James Racines wants the second edition of this tournament to be put in a mall.

He said that he wants the tournament to attract more audience and since the malls here in Cagayan de Oro are always crowded, they will be very ideal to hold the competitions in them.

“We already have a tentative venue but if a big mall like SM or Centrio can host the tournament, then why not,” he said.

Racines has set the tournament tentatively at the Nazareth gym on November 17. Schools or club teams can join the tournament for players Boys 19 and Under (Born 1999), Boys 16 (Born 2002) and Boys 13 (Born 2005).

This tournament, Racines added will attract many teams, players, parents and fans. “The crowd will be there and can you imagine how much money the mall can get from these people?” he added.

Top school teams in the city and the rest of Mindanao are expected to join the competition. Expected schools from Cagayan de Oro who will join are Assumption Montessori School, Corpus Christi School, Xavier University Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School, St. Mary’s Academy, St. Mary’s School, Pilgrim College, Southern Philippine College, Liceo de Cagayan, Capitol University, and Cagayan de Oro College Phinma.

Registration fee is P2,500 per team which entitles a team one reversible jersey per player. Deadline of registration is on October 20. For registration and inquiries teams are advised to call 09050386845.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School is the local and national defending champion in the Boys 19 Under category. Winners in the different categories will qualify to the national finals which is set late this year in Manila.
