Phinma-COC opens Panagsal-aw 2018

WITH an intent to help its students discover and develop their individual talents in line with the hospitality and tourism management (HTM) industry, Phinma-Cagayan de Oro College (COC) has begun its annual three-day Panagsal-aw last Tuesday, October 2, in Centrio Ayala Mall's activity center.

According to Shenna Monic Sumagana, the spokesperson and student of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Phinma-COC, this is the first time that the college had its Panagsal-aw held outside the school campus.

“Gusto namo nga mas mo-improve kay dili lang taman sa school, gusto nila na mag go out mi para ma boost ang confidence sa mga students, kung unsaon pag handle sa event,” Sumagana said.

“Ginapakita kung asa taman gyud ang students and then preparing para sa ilang future sa ilahang ani nga industry nga ilang gi-enroll,” she added.

Anchored on its theme: “Celebrating the Youth's Creativity and Knowledge Toward Dynamic Progress through Filipino hospitality,” the event has activities and competitions designed to showcase the students' skills in hospitality and tourism management.

The activities were participated by junior high, senior high and first year college students from different schools: Phinma-COC (senior high and first year college students), Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, Bayabas National High School, Patag National High School, Bukidnon National High School, Camaman-an National High School, Molugan National High School, and others.

The event, which spanned from October 2 to 4, is comprised of competitions conducted per day, such as: Table Centerpiece Competition, Cake Decorating Competition, Festival Dance Competition, Salad-Making Competition, Sandwich-Making Competition, Waiter's Relay, Hulagway, Miss Panagsal-aw 2018, among others.

“Hopefully, ma successful siya kay grabe siya nga preparation, almost five months since June nag prepare na kami for planning. Hopefully, ma successful sya,” Sumagana said.

She added that they are hoping that they can achieve their objectives, which is to “help the students discover and develop their individual talent and skills, and for them to appreciate their future in the industry,” and that they were able to satisfy the expectations of the people involved in the event.

“First time gyud ni sya nga nigawas gyud ang HTM na mag event gyud diri and hopefully nga kani sya nga three-day event ma successful and then hopefully next year, mas mo improve pa sad ang kani nga event,” Sumagana said.
