Capitol joins ‘World Rabies Day’

SANTO TOMAS -- The Provincial Government joined the “World Rabies Day” initiated by the Department of Health (DOH), International Wildlife Coalition Trust (IWCT) and this town.

The commemoration was held yesterday at San Vicente Elementary School covered court here with dog vaccination facilitated by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).

Dr. Augusto Baluyut, PVO head led the information dissemination to grade 6 pupils, teachers, injection, as well as spay and neuter administration and ovariohysterectomy to dogs.

More than 200 people die from rabies every year.

“Prevention and control of rabies are very important to lessen the mortality of individuals victimized by dog bites. Every one of us should be a responsible pet owner who always takes the necessary precaution in handling pets especially when needed.” said Jolly Garcia, Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (PESU) head.

Mayor Johnny Zambo; Dr. Imelda Labrador-Ignacio, public health officer; and Suzanne LLanera, IWCT executive director also attended the activity.
