Caluag cites divine intervention in San Fernando mayoral bid

CLARK FREEPORT -- City of San Fernando Councilor Vilma Caluag has described her decision to run for city mayor as Divine intervention.

Caluag stressed this when she announced her mayoralty bid before the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) members at Widus Hotel and Casino on Wednesday.

She said that the city’s current leadership failed to provide what the people need in terms of basic services.

“I believe in divine intervention and I have a good intension for the city,” Caluag said in the vernacular.

If elected mayor, Caluag vowed to implement various programs on free funeral services, scholarship, medical assistance, tax collection efficiency, social services, traffic congestion among others.

On medical assistance, the councilor said she will seek the assistance of Governor Lilia Pineda, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Department of Social Welfare and Development to help indigent patients.

“Twenty percent will come from the governor, 20 percent from PCSO, 20 percent from DSWD, and the remaining 20 is the participation pay of the patient which is very minimal,” Caluag said.

She said that at least three former city mayors, including Dr. Reynaldo Aquino and Oscar Rodriguez, support her political plans.

Caluag said former councilors Dein Henson, Rose Calimlim and Jay Cuyugan will join her slate.

City of San Fernando, which is composed of 35 barangays, has 152 registered voters, according to Caluag.

Caluag will oppose Mayor Edwin Santiago, who is now serving his second term as local chief executive.
