Frasco may run for vice governor

FORMER Liloan, Cebu Mayor Duke Frasco yesterday said he will decide in less than two weeks whether or not he will run for vice governor in the May 2019 elections.

Officials of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) 3rd District earlier expressed support for Frasco for his youth and fresh ideas should he run for vice governor.

“I am thankful for the youth’s vote of confidence and support. The idea of running in tandem with Gov. Gwen (Garcia) was presented to me a couple of months ago by 1Cebu Party,” Frasco said.

Frasco, an incumbent commissioner of the Cebu Port Authority, said he has given it a lot of thought and discussed it in several meetings with his leaders in Liloan, and they are fully supportive of the idea considering his qualifications and experience as a local chief executive.

“However, if I am to run, I recognize that it will be an uphill battle as I will be up against an incumbent vice governor who has been in politics for almost 50 years.”

In response, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said she will not at all feel threatened if the former Liloan mayor decides to run for vice governor.

Magpale said that “age doesn’t matter,” adding that even at her age, she can still go around even in far-flung areas of the province.

“I don’t know if he is the strongest candidate they can fill against us. But still, he’s welcome. I don’t think of it that way nga threat. I’m relying on my performance,” said Magpale.

She said Frasco still has a lot to prove to deserve the position.

“Di man pud gyud ingun ana ka-deterrent ang akong age, as far as kanang travel is concerned (It isn’t as though my age is a deterrent, as far as travel is concerned),” said Magpale.

“I was sort of expecting nga gikan sa among district ang ilang kuhaon para makabu-ak sa distrito (I was thinking they’d field someone from my district to divide the electorate),” said Magpale.

In this connection, Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said the official filing of the certificate of candidacy for those who will run for any position will be on Oct. 11, 12, 15, 16 and 17, 2018, excluding Oct. 13 and Oct. 14, which are Saturday and Sunday. (EOB, AZLG)
