Weightlifting competition reels off October 6

THE two-day 2nd Zamboanga Hermosa Weightlifting competition reels-off Saturday, October 6, with weightlifters from different parts of the country seeing action.

Councilor Elbert Atilano, Philippine Weightlifting Association vice president, said that so far 65 weightlifters aged 13 to 24 have registered to join the competition.

Atilano said the participating weightlifters are from Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur; Rizal; Cebu; and from this city.

Atilano said the prizes for the two-day competition are as follows: first place, gold medal and P3,000; second place, silver and P2,000; and third place, bronze medal and P1,000.

The councilor added the team prizes are: first place, P6,000; second place, P4,000; and third place, P2,000.

He said the expected guests of the competition are Fr. Vic Uy, Private Schools Athletic Association chairperson; Vic Vargas of the Philippine Olympic Committee; Diaz and her Chinese coach; and from the Philippine Sports Commission.

The competition is part of the activities of this year’s Zamboanga Hermosa Festival that reeled off on October 1.

The festival is the grandest celebration the highlights of which on is on October 12, the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar, the most revered saint of this city. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
