48 Himamaylan farmers get land titles

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental-South has distributed a total of almost 68 hectares of land covered under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp) to 48 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Himamaylan City Thursday, October 4.

Of the total distributed land, 24.09 hectares are awarded to 12 farmers of the landholding formerly owned by Ma. Cecilia Javelosa located ay Barangay Nabali-an.

About 11 hectares would be divided by four farmers of the landholding previously owned by Simplicio Balangao at Barangay Cabanbanan.

Twenty-four ARBs will share about 21 hectares of the landholding formerly owned by the Traders Royal Bank-Bacolod located at Barangay Nahalang.

The remaining 12.94 hectares were distributed to eight ARBs of the landholding formerly owned by Community Rural Bank of Magallon at Barangay Carabalan.

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Nena Parreno, who led the distribution of the certificates of land ownership award (Cloas) held at the Himamaylan Senior Citizen’s Hall, underscored the continuing commitment of Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones to strengthen the program and uplift the lives of Filipino farmers.

Parreno reiterated the need for farmers to organize themselves into cooperative to avail various interventions like support services from the government.

She also reminded the farmers not to engage in illegal activities especially the sale and lease of land as these are grounds for disqualification under Carp.
