Bautista: See me CV

I WAS recently asked to submit a number of CV's for a number of things. I will follow.

Time was when I was a teacher, I taught basic business subjects to real life basic things. I will get to that later. My style of teaching was more of sharing my experience from traveling and work. Yes obviously I worked too. I especially enjoyed the time when I was to help graduating students and prepare them for what lies ahead. During my time I will learn that 96% of my students in International Hospitality and Tourism Management would land a job and work, either as employer or employee. Either way OK. My students were excellent. The present Dean of the School and previous to her are students of mine. Proud of them.

I was honored with an award for 2 consecutive years. Getting an award is no easy task. I was rated by my students, my colleagues and the Dean. I can't recall having to use my students or any assistant, student or otherwise, helping me from doing my duties in school. I taught and proctor exams. I checked all papers. I made my own lectures and computed for grades. A lot of sleepless nights. Never did I have to leave it to someone.

I was fortunate to have never had to cancel or close a class because my classes were alway filled up immediately. I would pity the other teachers and theirs as for some it had to close or folded and merged with some other. Pay of course was dependent on the number of classes then. I normally had 8 to 10 classes then. I was always P2,500 richer every month. That was how much I was paid. Really. What made things more difficult then was that the computer was not yet a necessity then. This was the early 90s, the overhead projector was just coming then.

Unexpectedly one class I did enjoy after my business subjects was Asian History, Customs, Tradition and Culture. Never have I expected to enjoy teaching it. I always hated and dreaded any history class when I was a student. This time it was like I was sharing a story every time. It did seem that my students were also enjoying my stories. Obviously Juan would now believe that I have traveled to all this places. Which made it more interesting to share. So now you know my style of how I teach. I did for 17 years.

One other class was specific for the graduate. If I recall it was called "practicals", that's what I can recall. Anyway I taught the students how to deal with things right after graduation. How to find work and what else is needed to do so.

First was looking for one. In all this an application is to be had. How, was what I taught. It will always begin with a Biodata. I would however discourage it. I told them you do better. A Résumé was to be, better yet a Curriculum Vitae.

Many will immediately judge from what was presented by an applicant just from the folder on hand. Will I hire someone who would buy a P10 peso biodata where I would just fill in the blanks? Would you? It would already send many wrong signals. I will assume "cheapskate" or "tamad", and who would want that.

By making your own it will make Juan's chances of landing one, better. Having to write one will even increase Juan's chances for one. A computer printed one won't work. Again by making one, will send the right signs for being hired. It represents "diligence" and "persistence", "sipag" at "tiyaga". For some even penmanship matters but that's another story for next. I can judge character for Juan from penmanship alone. Remember when I was the Mayor, I had sole appointing authority over all of City Hall. Yup.

A simple picture is always required, mostly in 2X2 size. Why not a studio portrait in 5R? If I were to make you choose among candidates with the same achievements, I tell you the Juan with the better picture will be taken for sure. Look the best if possible. The grad picture is best. Never that one that looks like you were in jail in black and white. Make that effort. Look good.

I was always one for details. Words used mattered too. When Juan does impress me I make sure that others would follow. From here on we all make gains. After this exercises, we continue on and make sure that every Juan gets my point.

When in reality, I would guarantee that it will work. This, just but a few of what I would share to my students for them to be confident in their next stage in life. It is until now able to make me move forward with what I do. And so can you.
