Spinner dolphin found dead in Iligan Bay

A SIX-FEET long male spinner dolphin was found dead at the shoreline of Iligan Bay in Santiago village, Iligan City, early Thursday, October 4.

Members of the maritime police under the 1002nd Maritime Police Station, Regional Maritime Unit-Northern Mindanao and the city agriculture office recovered the dead marine mammal after it was reported by the fisher folks in the area.

Authorities said the dead spinner dolphin belonged or classified among endangered species.

Initial examination disclosed that the dead dolphin sustained several contusions and bruises suggesting that it was trapped or caught inside a fishing net which was believed to be the cause of death.

The dolphin was brought to the City Agriculture Office to have the dolphin's body autopsied.

Authorities are also tracing the identity of the fishermen who was responsible for the death of the dolphin.
