Guv: ‘Political party is only secondary’

PAMPANGA Governor Lilia Pineda said that political party affiliation in the coming 2019 elections is only secondary to the peoples’ trust and confidence on would-be political candidates.

“It’s the people who will vote for you,” Pineda said, adding that while it is good to have a party affiliation, a candidate’s sincerity, track record and government accomplishments that deliver the votes.

Pineda is the chairperson of the Kapanalig at Kambilan ning Memalen Pampanga (Kambilan) said that candidates in the 2019 elections in Pampanga, particularly those who are seeking re-election, should think of the things they have done for their constituents.

“It is the people who will decide,” Pineda said.

Kambilan is the ruling local political party in Pampanga organized in December 2009.

In August this year, Kambilan signed an alliance with Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional political party led by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

HNP Secretary-General Antonio del Rosario, who is also the governor of Davao del Norte, said during the press conference that the alliance is set to ensure the support for President Rodrigo Duterte and senators to be endorsed by the HNP come 2019 polls.

Pineda is set to run for vice governor in the coming 2019 midterm elections.

Pineda, 67, has served the province in the last 30 years serving different municipal and provincial positions before getting elected to the top provincial seat.

Pineda's son, Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, is expected to run for governor of the province.
