Wanted NPA platoon leader nabbed

AN ALLEGED platoon leader of the New People's Army (NPA) was arrested during the service of two warrants for multiple frustrated murder and murder at his residence in Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental Thursday, October 4.

Chief Inspector Anthony Grande, city police chief, identified the suspect as Joebert Herrera.

The 15th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (IB) led the apprehension, in coordination with the Sipalay City Police Station.

Grande said the two arrest warrants with no bail were issued by Judge Fernando Elumba of Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Bacolod City on October 25, 2012.

Grande said Herrera claimed he was a former platoon leader of the rebel group but based on the military's intelligence monitoring, he is still a leader.

He is still an active member of the NPA, the city police chief added.

Herrera was even one of those suspects who reportedly attempted to assassinate an army officer, Grande said.

His warrants were in relation to the group's revolutionary actions in the previous years, Grande added.

Herrera is detained at the police station. (GYM)
