THE Zamboanga City Government has completed its preparations for the highly-anticipated “vinta” race and sardines boodle fight at the R.T. Lim Boulevard on Sunday, October 7.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar will lead the opening of the race as well as the other activities lined up for Day 7 of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2018 celebrations.
Salazar said this year’s race will have some 200 competitors vying to be the first vinta to cross the finish line to take home a cash prize of P15,000.
The prizes for other finishers will be as follows: second, P12,000; third, P10,000; fourth, P7,000; and fifth, P5,000.
Thousands of Zamboangueños and visitors are expected to converge at the R.T. Lim Boulevard to witness the 2018 Regatta de Zamboanga take off at 7 a.m.
Salazar said that also part of the Regatta program is the capability demonstration, which will be conducted by the various units and assets of the Philippine Navy through the Naval Forces Western Mindanao.
She said the lively vinta race will be followed by the Wow Sardinas Grand Boodle Fight at 11 a.m. along the boulevard.
The vinta race and Wow Sardinas are among the lined-up activities of the Zamboanga Hermosa festival, the highlights of which is on October 12, the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar, the most revered saint of this city. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
