HAVE you noticed how delightful the dishes are now at Marco Polo Davao? The hotel has Chef Alex Destriza to thank for. His cuisine—from Filipino to continental— is quite experimental in a lot of ways, and the dishes he creates don’t disappoint.

So it’s not a surprise that when the Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotels’ communications manager Samantha Poon flew in to Davao, she asked the chef to whip up a seven-course dinner to impress her guests from the Davao media.

Since the host is from Hong Kong, the chef took his cue from how the Chinese would feast. The menu should have something that swims, flies, and walks. Voila! Course by course, our palates were teased and pleased with fine flavors of the Organic Roast Duck, Steamed Tiger Prawn & Minced Scallop with Mashed Garlic and Slow-roasted Lamb Chop with Berries, to name a few.

That’s a taste of Hong Kong in Davao. How about the flavors of Davao in Hong Kong?

No problem. With the new direct flights between Davao and Hong Kong, the chef will be showing off his culinary skills in a Marco Polo hotel in Hong Kong. From October 11 to 13, Chef Alex will delight the Hongkongers with a Filipino-themed buffet dinner with “Taste of Davao” at the Three On Canton restaurant of the Marco Polo Gateway Hotel.

The selection of authentic Pinoy home-style dishes showcasing Davao’s bounties like the tuna and a variety of fresh fruits will be the ingredients of some dishes.

For some exotic tropical flavors, the coconut milk will season the slow-cooked beef ribs, mutton and prawns. Of course, the Pinoy BBQ will be the “smoked” addition to the spread.

To end the meals, diners will have a choice of the chef’s handcrafted sweet treats like the Halo- halo, Durian rice cake, or the fresh-from-the-farm harvests of mangosteen, lanzones and pomelo.

The flavors of “Taste of Davao” are Marco Polo Hong Kong’s way of luring the Hong Kongese to visit Davao. Two will be in town for sure—the lucky diners who’ll win economy class round-trip tickets from Hong Kong to Davao on Cathay Dragon. They get to dine more in Davao plus discover and explore the sights of the city.

What about us here in Davao? Samantha Poon was quick to say that from now until February 28, 2018, leisure travelers can enjoy discounts and perks when staying at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, Gateway Hotel or Prince Hotel.
