14 Paglaum scholars to go to Korea

THE Cebu Provincial Government will be sending 14 Paglaum scholars to Korea next year for a week-long study tour, announced Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale during a Paglaum Scholarship Leadership Summit at the Rafi Kool Adventure Camp in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban, Cebu.

The selection of scholars who will join the tour will be made through a raffle draw.

Magpale said the 14 selected scholars will have the chance to tour different places in South Korea, courtesy of the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC), which is chaired by Gov. Hilario P. Davide III with Magpale as co-chairperson.

A summit was held last Sept. 27 and was attended by 46 Paglaum scholars who came from the town of Minglanilla, and the cities of Naga and Talisay in Cebu’s first district.

Magpale said the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (Eatof) will shoulder the scholars’ accommodations through the Students Visitors Program of Gangwon Province, Korea, while the Capitol will shoulder the scholars’ round-trip airfare, which is at least P15,000 for each scholar.

Eatof is a group of 12 members in East Asia, of which Cebu Province is a member. It was founded in Gangwon Province, Korea in 2000.

“Beginning pa lang ni. Daghan pa mi plano para ninyo (This is just the beginning. We have lots of plans for you),” Magpale told the scholars.

The PWC has been holding a series of leadership training for all its 1,373 scholars. (S)
