Inmates join MassKara Festival

THE inmates from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangays Taculing and Handumanan, Bacolod City will also join the 39th MassKara Festival celebration.

Rudy Reveche, street dance coordinator, said the inmates will perform inside the BJMP compound.

He said they are still finalizing the performance date.

Reveche added in the previous years, the inmates also joined in the MassKara Festival celebration.

In the barangay category, a total of 14 barangays will perform and there are 11 entries in the school category.

The participating schools are Education and Training Center School II, Sum-ag Elementary School, Abkasa Elementary School, Montevista Elementary School, Patricia Homes Elementary School, A.L. Jayme Elementary School, and Crispino V. Ramos Elementary School for the elementary level.

Barangay Singcang-Airport National High School, Mandalagan National High School, Bacolod City National High School, Mansilingan Agro National High School for the secondary level.

The winning schools will receive P70,000; P50,000; P30,000; P20,000 and trophy for the champion, first, second, third places, respectively.

Reveche said last year’s champion in the barangay category, Barangay 18, will also join the competition as well as the three other winner barangays, the Barangays Mandalagan, Tangub and Alijis.

The winning barangays will receive P100,000, P75,000 and P30,000 and trophy for first, second and third runners-up, respectively.

Meanwhile, MassKara Festival Queen organizers Rene Jun Ogapong and Danjan Plazo said they will have a press presentation on October 13 at the Robinsons Place at 5 p.m.

Ten candidates will vie for the 2018 MassKara Festival Queen.

The candidates are Claire Therese Porras, Heryn Wilcel Gatilao, Shane Pia, Julia Bennett Divinagracia, Edelyn Roncales, Jacqueline Almogen, Angelica Amayna, Claudette del Castillo, Chrisselle Rose Lambating, and Ella Mercado.

Most of the candidates are college and senior high students.

The Silver MassKara Festival Organization Inc. will also tap judges from Manila.

Moreover, about 131 kiosks at the Bacolod public plaza already started to operate for the MassKara Festival.

Marketing Ma. Carmen Vasquez said the MassKara organizers will implement some measures within the festival site such as disallowing the vendors to play their own music or operating a videoke inside the kiosks, among others. (MAP)
