Radio station, PMHA sign partnership

IN CELEBRATION of Mental Health Week, Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) and Mango Radio entered into a partnership to promote mental health awareness.

Dominador Lopez and Precious Manliguez of PMHA Davao Chapter signed a memorandum of agreement with Eden David and lawyer Myra Wee of Mango Radio on Monday, October 8, during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao to promote health awareness in the radio program, Mango Life.

In their partnership, PMHA and Mango Radio will promote the awareness on mental health; address the concerns of the millennials on mental health and mental illness; and to provide a wider venue for the information education and communication (IEC) on mental health.

Manliguez, PMHA chapter executive manager, said they are mainly engaged in educating students, parents, and faculties through lectures and forums in both private and public institutions.

PMHA is a non-government organization whose main goal is to advocate mental health and prevent mental disorders through education, information, and encouraging the individuals to speak out.

"However kahit po ganun ang effort namin still the stigma on mental health is still there," Manliguez said.

She said their collaboration with the radio station will help in their advocacy on mental health.

Wee, who is also from RT Broadcast Specialist Philippines Incorporated (RTBSPI), said there is a need for the media to educate the public.

RTBSPI is the owner/operator of the Mango Radio on the frequencies of 102.7 in Davao and 91.5 in Zamboanga. Their advocacy is to educate listeners on different issues of the society while spreading the word of God.

The celebration of Mental Health Week is on October 9 to 14, 2018. (RJC)
