Davao City wins overall title

DAVAO City emerged overall champion anew in the two-day Muay Thai Mindanao Leg Tournament that closed Sunday at Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.

Davao City harvested a total of 17 gold medals, 11 silvers and three bronzes to prevail over Cagayan de Oro City (11 golds, 13 silvers, 11 bronzes) and Malaybalay (five golds, three silvers, three bronzes) who placed second and third, respectively.

Butuan City, General Santos City, Iligan City, Valencia City, Zamboanga Sibugay, Kidapawan City and Municipality of Bansalan also fielded entries in the tournament.

Davao City head coach Nell Jone Astudillo, in a Facebook interview yesterday, said all medalists will advance to the Muay Thai National Championships on November 15 to 21 at the Philsport Arena in Pasig City.

The team was composed of athletes from King's Sword Martial Arts and Shalom Warriors.

"We were also overall champion last year in Tagum pero mas maraming gold ngayon. Last year 13 ata, ngayon 17," he said.

Dabawenyos Princess Donna Marie Orocio (junior female 15-16 57 kg), Altancheco Tano (senior men's 45kg), Kate Beekhuzen (junior female 12-13 38 kg), Jonas Ricaplaza (junior male 40 kg), Vince Dominguiano (junior male 14-15 45 kg), Krizzelle Berbardino (junior female 16-17, 48 kg), Mckeen Lou Inojales (junior male 10-11, 51 kg), Julio Remonde (junior male 14-15, 51 kg), Alan Tano Jr/ (junior male 14-15, 48 kg), Von Medard (junior male 14-15, 38 kg), Neil Ivan Udarbe (junior male 12-13 34 kg), VJ Andrei Pachoro (junior male 10-11 30 kg), Liz Ivy Udarbe (junior female 10-11 30 kg), Sandi Beekhuizen (junior female 12-13 45 kg), Hamad Bantuhan (junior male 10-11 36 kg), Hannah Valerie Banez (junior female 10-11 40 kg) and Andrea Pachoro (junior female 10-below 25 kg).
